Decaf or regular?

31 07 2007

I was feeling sluggish this morning so I went into the office kitchen and made myself a cup of coffee. There were no labels to indicate which one was decaf and which was regular. I figured that the regular was black and I was right. I suppose that is the standard in the coffee machine world. I usually only drink coffee at home. This brought me to wonder why people drink decaf. To me it’s like drinking non-alcoholic beer. I enjoy the taste of beer but I wouldn’t drink n/a beer. Now that’s empty calories! I thought the main reason people drank coffee was for the boost. If you don’t get that, then why drink it?

No Wei is more like it.

30 07 2007

Last Thursday, we decided to go out and eat since neither of us felt like making dinner. We ended up going to Pei Wei. This is a product of P.F. Changs. P.F. Changs is ok Americanized Chinese food. Pei Wei takes it a step further. I got some beef dish and she got some flat noodle dish. Both were bland and not spicy at all, as stated. As bland as it was, I’m not even sure if it’s still Oriental food. Sure the item names are, but I’m not sure what it tastes like. The only perk about this place was that the fortune cookies are out for the taking. I can only imagine the free-for-alls that people have with them. The concept appears to be a nicer Panda Express or China King. I’d rather eat at China King personally. Thumbs down Mr Chang. Try again.

Working 9 to 5.

26 07 2007

On Monday I started a new job with a commercial real estate company. I’m pretty excited about it but it is not what I expected. It is totally different from residential real estate. The MLS is totally different. The whole process is totally different for that matter. I’ve never really been fond of cold calling and I expect I shall be doing a lot of it. One good thing coming out of this is that I don’t waste time anymore. I’m still doing residential so I’m basically filling up my free time with another job. And in this slow residential market, I’ve had plenty of free time. I’m already working on moving someone to a new office, so I should have some experience under my belt pretty soon.

The office is so close to my house that I drive home for lunch. You can’t spend money you don’t have yet, so I’ve been eating crap we have at home. I don’t expect to get paid in any commercial deals anytime soon. Overall, I’m still excited about a new career. My cubicle chair sucks though.

Oh, how my life has changed.

20 07 2007

About eight years ago, my life was so different. I used to go out all the time. When I went to the weekly parties like Buzz, I wouldn’t get home until 3am at the earliest. This is when I was really into Drum & Bass. Buzz was great because they were able to pull in headliners like Dara, DB, Andy C, Ed Rush, and Optical. My day used to consist of whatever I felt like doing.

Now my back starts to give out at about 1am and you’ll see me standing there bracing myself, holding my hips. I just got a new pair of prescription glasses and one of the lenses is so thick, if I squint just right I can see into the future. I never thought I’d be playing golf. I never thought I’d enjoy music like Jack Johnson. Oh yeah, and I’m married!

I thought I wanted a Carrera.

17 07 2007

No, not a Porsche. A watch made by Tag Heuer. I was very fortunate to have received a lovely watch from my wife for my wedding present. Then I immediately wanted a Carrera but now I want this:

Hell, I still want a Carrera too.

People are scum.

16 07 2007

This weekend I was perusing eBay, like I always do when I get bored and get the itch to buy random things. I found a great deal on some new Callaway golf clubs. It seemed too good to be true and I knew it yet I still proceeded to bid. I ended up winning but I elected not to pay right away. A couple hours later I got an email from the seller:

Hello. If you just made a golf club purchase you need to cancel your payment immediately!!! Some guys name Brian Coleman accessed my account and make fake sales! He used my account “dustintran2k” to scam. Please cancel your payment asap!!!

Scammers are such scumbags. Especially ones from Canuckistan. This morning I got call from the wife saying that our joint account has been compromised. Two charges for $477.xx were attempted from somewhere in Canada. I’m pretty sure it is Old Montreal, where we were two weeks ago. There were a couple of ATMs that we tried to use but the transactions were declined. I’ll be very frustrated if these charges actually go through. Perhaps it was the waitress that we had when we went out for brunch. We left a meager tip because of poor service and sub-par food. People came and went before we even got our food.

How do thieves live with themselves. They obviously have no morals so they must be the most apathetic people out there. I’d like to reiterate, people are scum.

Bobby Light gonna do you right.

12 07 2007

I hate to admit it, but I’m a closet MTV junkie. Of course it’s not the videos because we all know they don’t play any. It is home to my favorite show, Rob & Big. Ever since I saw the first episode, I was hooked. This is the funniest show on TV right now. Season two is currently under way. Here is a video of “Bobby Light,” the persona Rob created in one of the last episodes:

Petition for the traffic violators.

11 07 2007

In response to the new Virginia bill charing the hefty fees for drivers, an online petition has been created: Repeal the VA “Civil Remedial Fees” for Traffic Offenses. Do petitions ever work? I have yet to see or hear about it happening. It can’t hurt, just sign it anyway.

I just searched to see if petitions work and found this Snopes article saying they do not work. Although, it looks like PetitionOnline has had a handful of success stories. I signed it anyway. It only takes a minute of your time and if it really works, you’d probably feel dumb for not signing it.

Possible changes in Adams Morgan.

10 07 2007

DC Council to Consider Limiting Taverns in Adams Morgan. I believe this issue comes up every other year. The residents of Adams Morgan get tired of seeing drunk fools stumble around their neighborhood at 3am. I can see why that would bother them. It was a much nicer scene when I used to frequent the area every week. That was about five or six years ago though.

“The owners of several Adams Morgan restaurants, dreading a city plan to enforce a law that requires them to increase the ratio of food sales to drink sales or sell more food by Oct. 1, have been seeking to have their establishments classified as taverns.”

I think all the pizza places like Pizza Mart pick up the food sales slack for the entire area. By the way, Pizza Mart is the original home of the Jumbo Slice. Don’t let those signs on the competitors store fronts fool you. Believe me, I’ve had my share of ridiculously huge slices of pizza in my day. The other places try and draw you in with their loud techno music. Then again, these places are a big source of trash. Drunkards eat their pizza and throw away the paper plate and foil all over the place. Occasionally, you see a fallen slice that was not fortunate enough to land cheesy side up. That patron must’ve been furious! Oh well, the two foot long rat has a dinner now.

Reach out and touch someone.

9 07 2007

I almost could’ve touched some of the PGA pros in attendance at the AT&T National on Sunday. Not that I would’ve. How creepy would that be? We were really fortunate because not only did we get free tickets, we got to park at a house next to Congressional. It’s nice to have connections, or at least know people that do. We were literally a pitching wedge from the course. What was crazy was the numerous number of homeowners who were using their lawns as parking lots. They were charging people $20-40 to park in their yard. There must’ve been 40 cars in some of the yards. Is that really enough? I’m sure you’d have to have some work done on the lawn afterwards. What do I know though? I’ve never parked on my grass before.

We were able to see first hand, the “Tiger affect.” Most likely, the majority of people in attendance were there to see the number one player in the world. The size of the gallery that followed him was pretty crazy. You would see a huge crowd around the tee box when he teed off. Not even before his partner would take a swing, two thirds of them would be running to get a spot for the next Tiger viewing. It must be pretty distracting for his playing partners. We never really watched him play every shot on one hole. We would watch him tee off on one hole, second on another, and putt on another.

Unfortunately, Tiger didn’t win but it was great to finally see him in person. I managed to see everyone I wanted to see: Jim Furyk, Vijay Singh, Geoff Ogilvy, Anthony Kim, and a few others. It was pretty amazing to see the professionals I admire on TV that close. Next year I will try and make it out to the practice rounds to snap some photos. I failed to remember cameras and even cell phones were not allowed during play.

I don’t know how the players do it. People were talking and doing whatever they were doing to make noise all over the course. The walls of spectators block views of the fairways and greens so people don’t necessarily know the players are about to hit or putt. And here I get distracted when one playing partner makes the slightest rustling. I suppose that’s why they’re pros.

On a side note, the wifey noted that Charley Hoffman resembled Chris Griffin from Family Guy.
