If you haven’t already seen, pictures were released of Tiger and his daughter, Sam Alexis. I’m wondering why it’s not Samantha, just Sam. I hope she doesn’t turn out to be a spoiled brat. She’ll probably turn out fine, considering he’ll try to be like his father. On a side note, Tiger needs a new haircut.
Bush: 0 – America: 1. This looks bad for the Bush administration. Senate immigration bill suffers crushing defeat. I’m not sure this makes a huge difference. Illegals will still make their way over and taxpayers will still end up paying for them in some way or another. One positive goal of the bill was to make illegals citizens so they would end up paying taxes. Overall, I think people are happy the bill was shot down.
I think securing the border is just as big an issue. Just look how pressed some people are to come here:
This is a pretty big issue that can get heated. People get accused of being racist and ignorant. The uglier sides of people come out. If you call for sealing the border or armed guards, then you’re racist. I’m not sure how that works. I’m not sure what the solution is. Either way, you won’t be able to please everyone.
If you’ve read the Washington Post this weekend, you might have noticed this article, Hefty Fees In Store for Misbehaving Va. Drivers. It was brought to my attention by my cousin. If you have a lead foot, you might want to read this article. If you’re prone to getting a lot of tickets, you might want to install a speed limiter in your car or go green and buy a bicycle.
Here is a copy of House Bill 3202 which goes over all of the fines. Now if you’re hit with a wreckless driving violation, expect to pay $200 to the court and then another $1050. Getting a DUI will now cost $300 and an extra $2250. I think it may be time to start driving my truck more. Although gas will cost me more, I probably won’t be caught speeding.
I did find one violation that deserves a higher fine. Failure to give proper signal. I don’t know about everyone else, but it is one of my biggest peeves. It’s especially annoying when you’re driving behind someone then suddenly have to brake because this dolt waited until 3 feet before they turned to graciously put on their turn signal. I say the $1050 fine is not enough! I think that everyone has thrown common courtesy out their car window.
Seeing Gabe’s video reminded me of the one year I made my Optimus Prime Halloween costume. It took me about 5 hours to make. I went to Shoppers Food Warehouse to get free boxes for the body. I used Gatorade bottles for the gas cans and cut the bottoms of them to make the wheels/tires. Wrapping paper and paper towel tubes were used for the exhaust pipes. I got the idea to make the costume randomly and ran with it. I worked nonstop. I sort of wish I still had it. I wore it to Buzz, when it was still around, and won 2nd place in the Halloween costume contest. I lost to a guy dressed as a bong. How am I going to compete with that at Buzz?
I haven’t had a good idea since that one. Below is the latest attempt. I’m most proud of the hamburger tie. I’m going to wear it to the next wedding I go to.
My friend Brandon sent me this link to YouTube – Soundwave: The Touch today. It was made by a friend(Gabe) of our friend(CD). I’m not sure what his name is. The only way you won’t like this is if you were born after 1985. Even then, I question your sense of humor. Beware, it’s probably not work safe because of the language. Eh, watch it anyway. I predict it’s going to be all over the internet in no time! Here is his website.
Luckily my family got together Saturday so we had Father’s Day dinner with the in-laws on Sunday. It was Stephanie’s graduation dinner as well. Theresa was in charge of setting everything up so she called SBC Cafe to make a reservation. After several failed attempts, she finally got through. She told them we wanted a reservation for 10 at 7pm.
Fast forward to 6:30pm last night. We get a call from another sister, Liz, saying that the restaurant is closed. Apparently, SBC Cafe is closed on Sundays. How convenient! I’m glad nothing was said about being closed when the reservation was made. This is unfortunate because I have been there before and our experience was nice. The food was fine and the place was cute but after this fiasco, I will probably avoid going there from now on. That’s poor customer service in my opinion. And with a big party on Father’s Day, that could’ve ruined our night.
Fortunately, Little Saigon was open and they took our reservation with 45 minutes notice. We had the family style dinner. I’m not sure if it was modified or not because I didn’t do the ordering. I know there are two options for smaller and bigger groups. It included the money chicken wings that I’ve brought up before. They were happy to refrigerate our two cakes while we ate too.
Saturday night my dad’s family got together for Father’s Day dinner at La Ferme in Chevy Chase, MD. I’m not sure I would’ve found it so easily if my car didn’t have navigation. It’s tucked away at the edge of a quiet neighborhood. The interior was interesting. There was a small balcony with two tables for two. Theresa noticed the numerous rooster and chicken statues. There was a pianist playing which was nice. People requested songs all night.
I was quite famished from washing and waxing my truck all day. I was ready to eat. Our appetizers came out about 45 minutes after we sat down. The entrees were served about a half hour after that. Apparently, French restaurants are notorious for taking a long time according to my aunt and uncle. I was not too thrilled about this. My cousin had to remind the waitress that he did not receive his lobster bisque appetizer so that was brought out after he ate his entree. I ordered the filet mignon medium rare. It was more like medium to medium well. Theresa ordered the dover sole, which turned out a bit rubbery. Without the cream sauce, it lacked flavor. My father ordered the salmon medium rare, and when it came out it was obviously overcooked so he sent it back. The wait staff didn’t really know who ordered what either. It was a bit surprising that my steak was served with french fries. It’s unfortunate when fries are better than the entree, especially a steak.
Overall, I was not impressed with our dining experience at all. Especially with the cost of the meal averaging $60 per person. Also being there for three hours, I felt like I was there for an eternity. My father and I agreed our time would’ve been better spent with a lady named Ruth.
As much as I hate to admit it, I read up on all the gossip that flows through the internet. I get bored quickly so I make the rounds through my bookmarks pretty fast. I go to sites like The Superficial and What Would Tyler Durden Do?Perez Hilton is too annoying for me. At the same time, I find it repulsive that it is plastered all over the networks and I see celebrity gossip is on every channel I turn to. It’s gotten a bit out of hand lately with Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. It’s a sad day when we see these socialites on media outlets such as CNN and Fox News. I’ve come to realize the local news is grasping as well. Everyday Fox 5 has a story about “something fatal that you potentially face all the time.” Of course it never turns out to be a big deal, but they try and scare you to stay tuned. Surely there has to be something else to report on. I think these stories should stay on shows like Entertainment Tonight or on E!. Then again, when people have ADD like me, there’s only so much you can hear about the Middle East.
Vaburbia needed a face lift. I like this new look but I’m not completely satisfied with it. It will probably receive some tweaks.
Speaking of face lifts, my car needs some body repair. Last weekend, I got rear ended as we were leaving the Vintage Virginia Wine Festival. I was watching this woman speed up and stop late in stop and go traffic exiting Bull Run Park. I had a feeling she was going to hit me. I just knew it was inevitable. I got out furious but managed to eventually calm down. So I’ve been getting estimates all week long.
This incident has made me think about how much the victim of an accident gets screwed. Not only does your car get messed up, you now have to take time out and get your car fixed. You are now without your car for a few days. That is if your car isn’t totalled. If that’s the case, you get whatever Blue Book value is. Say you had a car that was $50,000 new. If it was totalled and it was now worth half, you’re left with a few decisions. You could find the same used model like your’s for $25,000. You could buy a new car that was worth $25,000. Or you would have to buy the new model and extend the loan payments even more. I don’t believe any of those options are good. I suppose the upside of this accident was not having my car totalled. I have eight months left on my car loan. I’ve decided that the extra $400 a month that I won’t be giving to Toyota Financial Services is much greater than having that new car smell.
