Rehearsal dinner site search.

12 02 2007

Sunday morning, the lady and I woke up and went to the gym. Afterwards we were ridiculously hungry. We were also going to search for a place to have our wedding rehearsal dinner. It looks like we may have found a really cool place, Obi Sushi, but we’ll have to see what they have to offer. Google shows there are two in Reston. I’m not sure how that is. We were about to eat there but the prices were a bit high for lunch. Here are two reviews taken from another site:

“I took a client our for lunch. The food was great, and i love the interior! I just do not like to pay $40 for lunch and tea.”

“The ambiance and interior of the restaurant is interesting and our server was friendly. However, it is all downhill from there.”

I’m not so sure after reading those reviews. I guess it would be best to go and try it out ourselves.

So after checking out their “private dining” area, we went to Busara. I haven’t been to the Reston location prior to this. I’d have to say it is much nicer than the one in Tysons. I had the roasted duck in red curry, which hit the spot. If you like duck, get it. We could have our rehearsal dinner there but there isn’t an area set aside for a private party. I suppose the area they showed us would work and I know they have great food.

We took my mom to Restaurant Vero for her birthday Saturday night. Like I’ve said before, everything was great. I’m always left anxious to return.

Live music night.

Some clients of mine, Dimitri and Jenny, closed on their condo last week so we went out to celebrate. I decided to take them to Bin1700, a place the lady and I went to last year for Valentines Day. It is located in the Crystal Gateway Marriott. It is a very chill spot and I liked the modern decor. The food was quite good too. Bin1700 serves tapas style dishes it’s best to order a bunch of plates. For the four of us, we ordered 2 or 3 appetizers and I believe 4 entrees. For starters, we had the trio of crab cakes, mini bison sandwiches, and the grilled calamari. All were very good, especially the calamari. I’m a big fan of calamari and the roasted tomato butter sauce was really quite good. After all the calamari was gone, I kept dipping extra bread in the sauce. For entrees, we had the scallops, ribs, linguini with seafood, and roasted chicken. Again, everything was good but we found the chicken a little on the dry side. Maybe it sat too long before it came out.

It’s hard to imagine that we haven’t been back there for so long before this visit. While we were having dinner, there was a live jazz band playing. It was nice but a little louder than what I like. I think it’ll be the “go-to” when we don’t know what to do.

After dinner we went to Casablanca, where Dimitri and his crew throw a monthly party. If you like house music and/or smoking shisha, you should check it out. I was a bit disappointed with the selection of flavors, “strawberry or apple.” If you have the chance, try cantaloupe. Overall, it was a pretty good night.
